Alginate Grape Garden

The project aims to improve the self-recycle of LVMH company between the winery industry and fashion industry. Inspired by Dior, the project names Alginate Grape Garden, which hopes to create a sustainable natural flower garden for fashion haute couture. The small sample is weaved and embroidered in advanced alginate yarn and foil, which is dying with waste grape pomace.

The textile sample uses two recipes – Alginate-CMC Yarn and Alginate Oil Foil. Alginate is a biodegradable material extracted from seaweed, which could recycle by a calcium ion chelator easily. It can be reused many times or biodegraded in water or sea fast. Grape peel is the common waste in the winery industry, which opposes the natural luxury color for garments. People will boil the grape in hot water in a traditional natural dye workshop; however, there is a lot of waste pigment during the process. The alginate gel color dye can use the different levels of grape color thoroughly.
